To cope with the increasing resource throughput in society it is essential that products and services are designed so that they both enable circular resource flows and are attractive to people. In order to develop such circular offers, the current discussion on circularity based on a business and production perspective needs to be complemented with a more user-centric perspective.
USE2USE – A NEW VIEW ON PRODUCT CIRCULARITY
A user perspective can re-frame the current life-cycle based narrative and point to opportunities to address people’s consumption processes and various reuse scenarios. Viewing product circularity from a user perspective requires a new mindset. We call it Use2Use. The term was originally coined by Helena Strömberg in 2016 and has been an important part of building a new more user-centric narrative.
USE2USE PUTS PEOPLE AND THEIR ACTIVITIES AT THE CENTRE
A Use2Use mindset enables you to gain insight into people’s preconditions, consumption activities, and possibilities for shifting from linear to more circular paths of consumption.
USE2USE SUPPORTS EXPLORATION OF DESIGN OPPORTUNITIES
Such a mindset can also be used for exploring new design opportunities from a consumption and user point of view, both in regard to product and service design.
