Designing for collaborative
consumption

In their Master thesis project, Elin Janebäck and Matilda Kristiansson explored how an autonomous delivery droid could be designed to support transfer of goods between people situated close to one another. They designed a top module for HUGO, an autonomous, last mile delivery robot concept currently under development by the Gothenburg based tech agency Berge.

Their work included studying user needs and requirements to identify opportunities for designing the droid in a way that was perceived as visually appealing and user friendly. User journeys were also analysed to better understand people’s consumption processes and explore how a delivery service should be designed step-by-step.

The project resulted in HUGO C – a product proposal for a modular delivery droid that can transport between one and four parcels at a time and adapt its compartment sizes to user needs, making it fit for collaborative consumption.
